Why Don’t They Play Poker in the prison?

One of my favourite movies of all time, Jungle Jim was a highly entertaining movie, featuring John Rambo. Although not hugely exciting, it did have one quality which is often missing from many films; it kept you guessing. This is because, while action movies are great and generally entertaining, they are very predictable. You know what is going to happen before it happens, but sometimes it doesn’t make for an exciting watch.

The same is true of why don t they play poker in the jungle: Sure, there are some incredibly hilarious scenes and some genuinely funny one liners, but the movie is largely about a battle between good and evil, both man and monster. Although the story line may be interesting, its main characters were never developed and didn’t really seem like real people. There were no emotional ties between them, no secret motivations, no logical explanation as to why someone would join a group such as the Hunters, and so the viewer is left just sitting there with a groan every time a new character joins the group.

This is not to say that the movie isn’t entertaining: Quite the contrary, it was a very entertaining film. But, to watch someone playing in an imaginary game against a real-life opponent doesn’t exactly make for an entertaining game. To watch two perfectly normal people sit around the same table playing against each other for their own entertainment is what is needed.

So, why don t they play poker in the jungle?

Well the answer lies in the main character of the film, an escaped convict that ends up living among the tribes and goes on the adventure to find out why the tribe’s leader is killed. The leader is none other than John D’Amato who happens to be the star witness in the criminal trial of another fellow escaped convict named Tommy Clanczy. Now John and Tommy have to work together to solve the mystery behind the crime and find out why D’Amato was killed, and why the leader of the tribe was killed.

It is clear from the beginning that John D’Amato is not: the type of person that would approach another human being to play poker. Tommy Clanczy on the other hand was obviously well versed in the game when he approaches John D’Amato for the first time. John and Tommy also end up working very well together even though they are both criminals. The reason why they end up working very well together is because of the two unique personalities that they possess.

Both John and Tommy are very cold hearted and do not trust other people: However, they both learn to trust each other in a short period of time because of the two different characters they were presented with. It is obvious that Why don t they play poker in the first place is a highly intelligent movie with a great storyline because it takes its time to develop these two characters. As I mentioned earlier, the movie was directed by Wes Anderson and this means that you need to expect some pretty good special effects and cinematography.

You can also expect a lot of suspense and even some moral messages in the movie, which are rare to find in movies these days.
